From the Head of School
When The Abraham Joshua Heschel School was founded
in 1983, a new model of Jewish day school was created. We hope you will
come to understand what sets The Heschel School apart.
How are
we unique? Our approach to education, pluralism, and concern for
students' intellectual, emotional, and spiritual development informs our
daily interactions in the school community. Our school is characterized by team teaching and an
integrated curriculum. We select faculty who
have demonstrated mastery of their subjects, encourage academic excellence, and support our mission. Our faculty
understand the importance of participating in the creation of a
respectful community that embraces ethical and moral living.
All
of us involved in the work of The Heschel School strive to cultivate
the spiritual lives of our students and nurture their commitment to
Jewish life. We help them understand and respect a range of Jewish
practice, and we encourage them to embody these traditions in the way
they live their lives. We engage our students in a meaningful
relationship with the language, culture, land, and people of the State
of Israel.
Our outstanding educational program emphasizes
critical thinking and supports the diverse talents of our student body.
The quality of our humanities, arts, and science programs has enabled
our graduates to be welcomed by outstanding institutions of higher
learning.
We look forward to meeting you when you visit the
school to experience the culture and philosophy that are the hallmarks
of a Heschel education.
