College Advising

College Advising at Heschel seeks to balance two worlds—the here and now of high school and the very near future of college. Grounded in the belief that making “good matches” between students and colleges is at the heart of the college application process, the college advising program at Heschel is designed to help students identify college environments that will allow them to develop their interests, define their talents, and explore new ideas. At the same time, the program gives them an understanding of the college selection process so they can make informed decisions for their educational futures and successfully navigate between the two worlds.

College advising is highly personalized. The college advisor works with students individually and in groups and works with parents throughout the process. The program begins formally during the second half of junior year, which allows time for thorough research of colleges beginning at a realistic point in the student’s career.

Students and parents are encouraged to stay in close contact with their college advisor throughout the process and to avail themselves of the many resources available through the college counseling office.
