Spotlight: Grade 9 Field Day

Grade 9 had the great joy this week of traveling together as a grade to Spring Lake Day Camp. For any grade, an end of the year trip is a special occasion. And for this particular Ninth Grade – a group of students who faced the unique challenge of beginning their high school journey on Zoom and in pods, who had not yet been able to experience an activity together as a full grade, and who had to approach this year with great faith in themselves and each other – this trip felt especially sweet. The sight of students running up and down the basketball court, learning from their friends to play volleyball, conquering their fears on the ropes course, and enjoying a refreshing mist of water while on a paddleboat out on the lake was truly a blessing. It was a reminder that, even in a strange year, these students have found their place at Heschel and within the grade. And it was a preview of the energy, enthusiasm, and friendship that this grade will bring to Heschel for years to come.
