Grade 4 Students Use Scientific Method and E.D.P. to Build Bridges

Grade 4 reviewed the steps of the Scientific Method and the Engineering Design Process (E.D.P.) before jumping into an engineering unit.

During their study of bridges, the students are transformed into engineers to complete a S.T.E.M. bridge building challenge. The goal of the project is to design and build a lightweight and structurally sound bridge made of toothpicks. The final bridge must meet certain weight and size requirements while supporting as much weight as possible.

Working in small groups, the students continued using their engineering skills to design, build and test their bridges. By the end of this S.T.E.M. project they will be expected to organize their ideas, think critically, collaborate with teammates, decide on a course of action, and assess any failures that may have occurred.
