When the Abraham Joshua Heschel School was founded in 1983, a new model of Jewish day school was created. Named after one of the great Jewish leaders, teachers, and activists of the twentieth century, The Heschel School opened with a commitment to creating a pluralistic Jewish community dedicated to the values that characterized Rabbi Heschel’s life: intellectual exploration, respect, integrity, love of the Jewish people and tradition, and a commitment to social justice.

Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove Speaks In High School

Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove returned to Heschel as part of a High School program to discuss how his role has changed since the war broke out on October 7, what is happening in academic institutions around the country, and ways anti-semitism takes on different forms at different times. He stressed the importance of a moral education, that even in times of trauma, we should choose life, and that as Jews we need to understand that there is more that unites us than divides us.
