Yom Eliezer ben Yehudah

In honor of Eliezer ben Yehudah, Middle School students participate in a multi-part competition that focuses on Hebrew vocabulary. The week culminates with an assembly where students compete for the title "Aluf Ha'Ivrit" (the Hebrew champion).

Heschel fosters a deep commitment to and a lifelong relationship with the State of Israel--its language, culture and people--in recognition of the centrality of Israel to Jewish identity and to the Jewish people. We nurture ahavat yisrael (a love of Israel) through Hebrew language, literature, arts and a knowledge of Israel’s history, accomplishments, and challenges.

Yom HaAtzmaut @ Heschel

"The Jewish people has never ceased to assert its right, its title, to the land of Israel. This continuous, uninterrupted insistence, an intimate ingredient of Jewish consciousness, is at the core of Jewish history, a vital element of Jewish faith."

-Abraham Joshua Heschel
